The European Union could recommend that non-essential travel from the United States be suspended due to the spread of the coronavirus, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday with a reference to diplomatic sources.
European officials have been considering this measure for much of August because the infection rate in the United States is much higher than in the EU. Slovenia, which opens the EU presidency, recommended last week that the US and five other countries be removed from the list of states that are allowed to travel without restrictions. The final decision is scheduled for this Monday.
The North American country has registered more than 38 million cases of covid-19 and has exceeded 637,000 deaths.
