The facts took place in the 18th arrondissement, in the north of the capital, according to a police source, confirming information from BFM TV. Police officers first noticed “a car with four passengers, one of whom was not wearing his seatbelt”. As they approach, the car “takes off at very high speed and rushes at a crew of police on mountain bikes”, according to the police account.

The officials “use their weapons” and seriously injure “the driver and a passenger”, transported in stride to the hospital. “Some of the occupants are known to the services. They say they consumed alcohol and cannabis,” said a source familiar with the matter.

The IGPN has opened an investigation

An investigation for “attempted intentional homicide on a person holding public authority” has been opened and entrusted to the 2nd district of the Paris judicial police (2nd DPJ), said the Paris prosecutor’s office. Another investigation, for “willful violence with a weapon by persons holding public authority” this time, entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN), was also opened.

This Sunday afternoon, three police officers – two men and a woman – were taken into custody. Being able to last up to forty-eight hours, police custody is justified, according to a source close to the investigation, because of the seriousness of the injuries.

This news item is reminiscent of a similar case that took place at the end of April in the center of the capital. A police officer opened fire on a car heading towards Pont-Neuf in an attempt to escape control, killing two of its occupants and injuring a third person. The officer who fired the shots was later charged.
