Landes: 200 hectares of pines burned towards Saint-Justin, the fire is contained

Several eyewitnesses have stated that the thick black smoke can be seen for miles in any direction. According to the prefecture, as of 10 o’clock in the evening, a total of 200 hectares of pines had already caught fire. On this Sunday, the 19th of June, firefighters are working really hard. On the spot, there is a mobilization of 200 individuals. Dash, a type of water bomber aircraft, is also present at the scene. The forest fire started in the general vicinity of Saint-Justin. Additionally, the towns of Estigarde and Vielle-Soubiran are affected by this issue.

The prefecture encourages the general public to stay away from the area.

This forest fire is being battled by 197 firefighters, 22 gendarmes, and other law enforcement personnel at the moment.

Reinforcements from adjacent departments, Gironde, Lot-et-Garonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Charente-Maritime are also on site.

As a result of the closure of Departmental 933 in this region, Créon-d’Armagnac has organized a detour that takes drivers along RD35 and RD51 instead.

According to the prefecture, one hundred persons were moved out of the area near the fire “to prevent the fumes.” This was done as a precaution.

The fire did not spread to any residential areas.

Within the municipality of Vielle-Soubiran, a firefighter command post has been established for more immediate assistance.

A crisis unit has been created at the prefecture in Mont-de-Marsan as a result of the situation.
