Fans Boycott Ms. Marvel Series; receives very negative reviews

Disney+ premiered on June 8 the first episode of Ms. Marvel, a series starring Iman Vellani in the role of Kamala Khan. And despite Marvel’s dedicated and millionaire entourage of fans, it seems that fiction is the latest victim of the phenomenon known as ‘review bombing’, facing an exaggerated volume of negative criticism.

Despite the fact that the series scores a 6.6 out of 10 on IMDb, the production has received very extreme criticism. 42.5% of the votes correspond to a 10, while 21.9% of the critics correspond to a score of 1.

Everything indicates that Ms. Marvel has been a victim of review bombing, a phenomenon by which large groups of users leave negative reviews on the Internet to damage the reputation and sales of a product or, in this case, a production. Interestingly, another Marvel production that had to face this boycott was Captain Marvel, the character played by Brie Larson and of whom young Kamala is a staunch fan.

User reviews on IMDb reveal some of the issues viewers have encountered. “This series has literally nothing except unnecessary colors. The plot is rubbish and strays from the history of the comics. The origin of Kamala’s powers is literally the worst idea imaginable,” reads one review.

“It’s the worst series in history, it’s a Disney princess movie, not a Marvel superhero movie. If Marvel wants to work on social issues, then they should open an NGO. They just keep adding unnecessary things that no one asked for,” you can read in another harsh review.

“It is not possible that it is a Marvel series. It is embarrassing, it is overacted and, most importantly, it is not for adults, it is for children. It would have been better if Disney did it,” another viewer complained. In short, most disgruntled viewers point to the childish tone of the series, as well as the unlikely origin of Kamala Khan’s powers.
