Rachel Anne Zegler, known in the art world as Rachel Zegler, is a 21-year-old American girl, born on May 3, 2001, in Hackensack, New Jersey, having Craig and Gina Zegler as parents, and with an older sister of name Jacqueline.

The young actress grew up in Clifton, New Jersey, where she attended St. Philip the Apostle Preparatory School and then Immaculate Conception High School, where she starred in school musicals for all four years: as Bella, in La Bella and the Beast in 2016; Ariel in The Little Mermaid in 2017; Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street in 2018, and Fiona in Shrek the Musical in 2019, by June 2 of this same year she graduated.

In all four performances, she received Metro Award nominations in the category of Actress in a Leading Role. Her other roles include Serena in Legally Blonde, Cosette in Les Miserables, Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Mimi in Rent.

In January 2018, director Steven Spielberg posted an open casting call via Twitter for the new film version of West Side Story, then Rachel Zegler was only sixteen years old and responded to the casting tweets with videos of herself singing “ Tonight” and “I Feel Pretty”, to her surprise she was selected from more than 30,000 applicants for the role of Maria.

The actress and singer had performed the role a few years ago at the Bergen Performing Arts Center.

“When I played Maria on stage a few summers ago, I never could have imagined that I would take on the role again in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story,” said Rachel.

Ziegler’s YouTube channel has been active since July 2015, and as of 2020, the video of herself singing “Shallow,” from 2018’s A Star is Born, has garnered over 11 million views on Twitter. In January 2020, she signed with ICM Partners.

In February 2021, it was announced that Zegler had joined the cast of the 2022 film Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Angelique Jackson of Variety wrote that Ziegler “would play a mysterious key role.”

In the same year, but months later, on June 22, 2021, she was chosen to play Snow White in the live-action adaptation of the Disney animated film .

Snow White live-action is a film based on the fairy tale by Hernamos Grimm, its original version, the Disney animated film premiered in 1938.

The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs remake will be directed by Marc Webb, while Benj Pasek and Justin Paul will be responsible for the soundtracks of La La Land, The Greatest Showman, and Dear Evan Hansen.
