Prince Harry and Meghan Markle threw a relaxed birthday party for Lilibet

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated the first birthday of their daughter, Lilibet, on Saturday, in the context of Queen Elizabeth’s jubilee celebrations.

“It was a lovely party and had everything you would expect from a child’s birthday party,” a source told The Sun.

“But there was no formal entertainment. The idea was for it to be very relaxed and informal, with people free to come and go as they please.”

According to the outlet, Harry’s first cousin Zara Tindall’s three children, Mia, 8, Lena, 3, and Lucas, 1, attended the low-key party, along with his other first cousin Peter Phillips’ daughters, Savannah, 11. and Island, 10.

Notably, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, and their little brother Prince Louis, were not in attendance .

The eldest children of Prince William and Kate Middleton were busy making a surprise appearance on an official visit to Wales.

The informal garden party for Lilibet took place at Frogmore Cottage, the house Harry and Meghan first shared as newlyweds, and featured everything from a birthday cake and balloons to party games and picnic snacks, according to TheSun.

Lilibet’s birthday on June 4 was also recognized by members of the royal family via social media over the weekend.

“We wish Lilibet a very happy first birthday!” Her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, wrote, with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tweeting: “Wishing Lilibet a very happy birthday, she is one today! ??”

Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall also weighed in, writing: “Wishing Lilibet a very happy first birthday today! ??”

This trip to the UK marked Lilibet’s first visit to her father’s homeland since her parents left the royal family and moved to California in 2020, and it has been a smooth one for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

They were absent from the Buckingham Palace balcony for the Trooping of the Color parade, and have only been seen at Friday’s Thanksgiving Service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, where they were booed by the crowd outside.

Queen Elizabeth II finally met her great-granddaughter on June 3, just hours after Lili’s first birthday, as part of her platinum jubilee celebration.
