Another ‘blow’ for Will Smith: Netflix cancels ‘Bright 2′

After Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock at the last Oscars, the negative consequences have not stopped for the actor, who in recent weeks has seen, without being able to do anything, the cancellations and pauses of his projects, such as the movie sequel Bright.

After the controversial coup, who is part of the cast of I am legend resigned as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. After a meeting, the organization decided to veto him for the next ten years from all his events and galas.

What projects have been canceled for Smith?

Now the streaming company Netflix would have canceled the tape Bright 2, according to a report by Bloomberg. Both Smith and Joel Edgerton were expected to reprise their roles as Daryl Ward and orc Nick Jacoby, a cop and his partner, who amid interspecies territorial tensions in Los Angeles stumble upon a powerful object.

The continuation was confirmed in 2018 despite the negative reviews received by the film directed by David Ayer and written by Max Landis, which premiered at the end of 2017. The cast was completed by Noomi Rapace, Lucy Fry, Édgar Ramírez, Ike Barinholtz and Alex Meraz.

However, in 2019 the project was put on indefinite hiatus, and a year later it was reported that Louis Leterrier would be Ayer’s replacement as director; he was in the last phase of writing the script.

This is not the only thing that has gone wrong for Smith since the Oscars, as the same company stopped the movie Fast and Loose. Sony Pictures did the same by pausing Bad Boys 4, where Will has a leading role, in addition to Disney, which delayed the release of the National Geographic documentary Pole to Pole.
