Peaky Blinders premiered its sixth season maintaining the quality and power of an increasingly elaborate trick plot. On this occasion, the series has answered several of the questions left in the fifth season, but there are still a few on the air.

Will it lead the characters to a total fall into darkness? Could Shelby’s failure just be a spur to redouble her efforts to succeed?

The sixth season of Peaky Blinders is still carefully moving its pieces on the complicated plot board and nothing seems to be clear. What is clear is that you will need to answer three questions of considerable importance to build a satisfactory conclusion. Will you be able to do it? You should at least try.

Will Michael Gray open the battlefronts against the Peaky Blinders?

This is a complicated question with no immediate answer. As you may recall, Michael Gray made it clear in the Season 5 finale of Peaky Blinders that he wanted to take control of the group at a family reunion. One of the great phrases of the now absent Polly was to predict a disaster in the making.

“There will be a war and one of you will die, but I can’t say which one,” he told Tommy and Michael. Will it happen? Will the classic Shelby family unit finally fall apart?

For now, everything seems to point to no, especially after Tommy’s ruse that made Michael a virtual pawn. One that will allow him to reach the spheres of power in which the enigmatic Jack Nelson finds himself. For now, it is only clear that being in-laws of a man of such power, Michael and Tommy will have to act as accomplices. And dealing with the harshness and ambitions, as well as the thirst for revenge, of Polly Gray’s son.

However, it is most likely that Michael will end up reacting, which will put Tommy in a difficult situation.

What can we expect from Alfie Solomons?

To the surprise of all fans, the final chapter of the fifth season of Peaky Blinders revealed that Alfie Solomons was alive. More scarred and much more mysterious, he’s back as part of the Shelbys’ future.

Of course, this is a key point in understanding the failure of the plan to assassinate Oswald Mosley. And although for once Alfie has had nothing to do with the plans and maneuvers that led to the plan failing, his return is not entirely fortuitous. There is still nothing clear about it. But what is clear is that the return of Tom Hardy’s character is not fortuitous nor was it part of an unexpected, gimmicky twist in Peaky Blinders. Almost nothing is in the series.

For context: actress Helen McCrory died of cancer before she could reprise her role as Polly Gray. So her disappearance has become a dilemma for writers and producers. How to pose something similar?
