Mark Ruffalo asks to pay more taxes

Actor Mark Ruffalo is among a group of more than 150 millionaires who are asking elite attendees at this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos to tax them more.

Mark Ruffalo, known for his role as the Hulk in the Marvel movies, has joined the call of more than 150 wealthy people for higher taxes as global elites gather at the Davos Economic Forum.

The actor is among the latest signers of an open letter titled “In Tax We Trust” , first published at a virtual Davos conference in January, and joined at the time by one of the heirs to the Disney empire, Abigail. Disney.

“While the world has witnessed immense suffering over the past two years, we have seen our fortunes rise during the pandemic, but few, if any, of us can honestly say we are paying our fair share of taxes. ” , is written in this updated letter on the occasion of the Davos Forum.

Other supporters of the move include Disney heiress Abigail Disney, Nick Hanauer, an American businessman and early investor in online giant Amazon, and Morris Pearl, a former managing director of investment firm BlackRock.

“Tax us, the rich, and tax us now” is another line that stands out in the letter.

In 2012 Ruffalo had already supported the “Robin Hood Tax”, another US initiative to reduce inequalities between rich and poor.

At the time he made irony about the consequences of the subprime mortgage crisis that had not been dragged down by Wall Street or by the greatest fortunes.

“ Today, the derivatives market alone is 70 times larger than all the economic production on the planet; a stack of $100 bills the size of Everest is traded on the foreign exchange markets every three minutes; computer algorithms make millions for their master by playing thousands of times a second.”

Over the past decade, a growing number of millionaires and billionaires in the US and Europe have spoken out, calling on governments to impose higher taxes, including levies on the wealth of the richest.

While only a small number of millionaires were in Davos to attend the protest, activists sent the open letter to all Davos delegates.
