Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello, who will headline the opening ceremony of the Champions League final this Saturday in Paris, said she will pay tribute to her Latin roots.
“We are injecting that same joy and passion into our performance, and also that Mexican-Cuban culture. There are a lot of colors and I am going to show where I am from in that part of the world,” said the singer, regarding the European continent, in a video released by UEFA.

The 25-year-old international star, known for songs like “Bam Bam” and “Havana” and nominated for Grammy Awards, said that watching soccer with his Mexican relatives helped him perfect his goal celebration.

“My father is Mexican and I am Latina, so soccer is an important part of our culture and we support Mexico whenever it plays,” added the singer, who said she had followed the television series “Club de Cuervos” about this sport. This Saturday’s show, before the start of the final between Real Madrid and Liverpool, is designed acoustically and in color to “get people excited” and provide “a lot of energy”.

Cabello said that soccer is her favorite sport and that she has always wanted to go to a game because it is “the only sport” that she can watch and find out “what is happening.” “It’s the only sport my family likes,” he said.

Although she refused to describe herself as a fan compared to the fans that will be in the Stade de France, she confessed that she has sometimes tried to go to games to support the Mexican national team, but it has been impossible for her due to her busy schedule.

“This is my first game, so I’m very, very excited. I can do a very good imitation of how Latinos do it: Gooooool! I’ve seen a lot of games with my family and we can get very excited,” she added. The singer-songwriter did not want to get wet about which team will get her support and assured that she will encourage them both: “They have worked very hard. I encourage them both,” she commented, although she does hope that it will be “even”: “I do not like when there is an advantage of a team from the beginning”.
