As in 2021 and 2020, to determine the ultimate best list for the film highlights of 2022. Because with the combined expertise of the editors of two of the largest film sites in Germany, we were able to create a ranking that goes far beyond individual best lists.

It is precisely those personal top lists of everyone that form the basis for an election in which, in the end, Hollywood blockbusters like The Batman or  Top Gun 2: Maverick are very far ahead. But in the end, all films have to admit defeat to a highlight that is represented in one of the top places in more than half of all individual lists.

Also interesting: The cinema films clearly outperformed the streaming releases. The top 10 almost exclusively includes titles that ran exclusively in cinemas over a longer period of time. A single Netflix original film (which also came to the cinema first) and an Indian blockbuster spectacle, which many probably only discovered on Netflix after a short cinema run, are the exception.

But enough of the preamble. Here are the 25 best films of 2022. From 25th to 12th place in a compact list for your benefit! But for the top 10, we have added a few comments.

10. Spencer & The Innocents

Spencer' review: Kristen Stewart shines, but it's no biopic - Los Angeles Times

Why is there no title at number 11? Because a duo has gathered in 10th place. “ The Innocents ” and “ Spencer ” are very different films, but at the bottom of our ranking they are exactly the same.

“The Innocents” is one of the few films that even got the highest rating of 5 stars from us this year. “Mercilessly evil and at the same time mercilessly good!”

9. Glass Onions: A Knives Out Mystery

Glass onion details: 'Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery': All you need to know - The Economic Times

” Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery ” is the sequel to “Knives Out”, which even made it to third place in our 2020 big leaderboard. The sequel doesn’t go that far up. The only Netflix original in the top 10, which is not at the top of any individual list but has numerous mentions, can be streamed on Netflix with the release of this special on December 23rd. We have a clear recommendation: “Crime entertainment that is primarily fun,” says our Geekybar review.

8. The Worst Person In The World

Just ahead of the Netflix sequel, one of the art house hits of the year ranks eighth: “ The Worst Man in the World ” is a refreshingly different relationship film that even tops F. He was not only enthusiastic about “the most sympathetic, most humane film character that I have met in recent years.”

7. RRR

2022 was also the year of Indian cinema. It is not only in Germany that more Indian films were shown on the big screen than probably ever before – right at the top: SS Rajamouli’s wild and spectacular action highlight ” RRR “, which began a triumphant march around the world.

After unfortunately only a very short cinema screening, the surprisingly timely release on Netflix also played its part in the fact that the epic was seen a lot and can thus be found in numerous of the best lists submitted for this ranking.

6. Bones and All

In the romance ” Bones And All “, superstar Timothée Chalamet and discovery Taylor Russell shine as a cannibal love couple, who nacelles through a desolate 1980s America. The result is, on the one hand, a touching, fantastic-looking film with a lot of pitch-black humor and also one or the other bloody excess, Our rank 6!

5. Licorice Pizza

Licorice Pizza review: Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman elevate Paul Thomas Anderson's nostalgia trip to greatness | Hollywood - Hindustan Times

The top 5 begins with a film from 2021, which only started in Germany in January 2022 and is therefore taken into account by us for this list. Paul Thomas Anderson’s ” Licorice Pizza ” developed an almost outrageous lightness that inspired numerous editors* on both sides, so that so many voted it one of their ten best films of the year that overall this outstanding placement is recorded.

4. Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick Box Office Day 2 (Early Trends): Tom Cruise Starrer Shows A Jump On Saturday, But Is It Enough?

It’s the worldwide cinema hit of 2022 (even if ” Minions 2 ” was just a step ahead in Germany and ” Avatar 2 ” will still pull ahead in the final billing) and not only popular, but also damn good. We are talking about ” Top Gun 2: Maverick “. After all, the Top Gun sequel is just “everything between incredibly fast-paced and very touching.”

3. The Batman

WarnerBros.com | The Batman | Movies

The DC comic adaptation “ The Batman ” opened the podium just ahead of “Top Gun: Maverick” and even more closely behind the second-placed title. In nearly a dozen top 10 lists, Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s reimagining of The Dark Knight is in part because it’s “a different kind of Batman film that undermines the hero’s image as a sinister avenger while still being some of the best superhero moments of the year (keyword: Batmobile!)

2. Nope

When the author of these lines evaluated the lists of his colleagues, he followed with excitement how the ranking behind the top spot kept changing. And gradually a sci-fi film crept forward that didn’t seem to play such a big role at the beginning. But the top 2 placement of ” Nope ” is perhaps surprising in the end, but certainly not undeserved. Because Jordan Peele’s unusual highlight can not only be found on numerous individual lists, but very often very far up there.

1. Everything Everywhere All At Once

Everything Everywhere All At Once Movie Review: If Insanity Was An Insanely Beautiful Film; The Real Multiverse Of Madness

YouTube editor Sebastian Gerdshikow speaks of a “wonderfully chaotic, creative overload”, Max Wieseler from the Geekybar editorial team of an “overwhelming sensory overload of images and ideas” that “in addition to all the wonderfully wacky ideas, brilliant action and cinematic ideas, there is also a has a history that touches the heart,” adds his colleague Esther Stroh. Of course, we not only chose the best films of the year, but also the best series of 2022. There, the latest titles from two major franchises fought a very close race, while a not-so-secret insider tip took third place on Disney+. You’ll soon find out what’s behind it. The list of the best series of 2022 will appear in a week – on December 30, 2022.
