Mexico sends second squad of forest fire fighters in support of Canada

Mexico.- The government of Mexico sent a second team of 101 combatants to assist in mitigating and extinguishing more than 300 active forest fires that affect different regions of British Columbia in Canada.

The support was made through the National Forestry Commission (Conafor), which provided part of its elements to support the work in the North American country, which was given within the framework of the “Memorandum of Understanding for the Exchange of Resources for the Forest Fire Management between both countries. Cooperation on the Mexican side is managed jointly between Conafor, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) and the SRE, with the Canadian Center for Forest Fire Interagency (CIFFC) “.

According to what has been reported, the situation in the region has not been favorable, as Mike Farnwork, minister of the Province of British Columbia, has declared that in light of what happened, he has chosen to carry out massive evacuations of the provinces, providing emergency accommodation for the evacuees.

Faced with a situation that continues to exceed Canada’s capabilities and the government’s request for help, Mexico sent a first contingent on July 17, made up of 101 combatants who arrived in the province of Ontario, which was received by a delegation led by the ambassador. from Mexico in Canada, Juan José Gómez Camacho and the Consul General in Toronto, Porfirio Thierry Muñoz Ledo.

While the second Mexican contingent, arrived on July 24 at the Abbtsford International Airport in Vancouver where he was received by the delegation led by the Consul General of Mexico in Vancouver, Berenice Díaz Ceballos.

As part of the bilateral cooperation project, Canada confirmed the availability to vaccinate members of the Mexican contingent against Covid-19 upon arrival, reaffirming once again the relationship of friendship, cooperation and solidarity with the Government of Canada and the North American collaboration. in fighting forest fires.
