Daily balance of deaths from coronavirus falls again in Spain and stands at 510

The total number of deaths amounts to 16,353 in Spain, the third country in the world with the most deaths only behind Italy and the United States.

Madrid. [AFP]. Spain reported on Saturday a further reduction in the daily balance of deaths from coronavirus, with 510 deaths, almost 100 fewer than on Friday, according to the Ministry of Health, which had not recorded such a low figure since March 23.

The total number of deaths amounts to 16,353 in Spain , the third country in the world with the most deaths only behind Italy and the United States.

Saturday’s figures confirm the decrease in the daily rate of deaths in the country. This Saturday is also the least serious part of the deceased since the 462 died on March 23.

The authorities insist that this is not the time to “let your guard down” and from Monday they will distribute masks on public transport, coinciding with the resumption of non-essential activities such as construction and industry, after two weeks of hiatus.

The confirmed cases in Spain reach 161,852, which represents 3.1% more, a percentage similar to that of the previous day.

To date, 59,109 people have recovered from the disease, 3,441 more than on Friday.

Spain fulfills this Saturday four weeks of confinement, ordered by the Pedro Sánchez government to reduce contact between the population and thus decrease the volume of infections.

The confinement will last at least until April 25 and has minimized vehicle traffic, as well as the frequent use of trains and planes. Thousands of police patrols roam the country’s streets and highways to verify compliance with the confinement and imposed tens of thousands of fines on violators.

In addition, the Spanish government announced this Saturday the 14-day extension of controls at land borders with France and Portugal.

“It will be in force until 00:00 on April 26,” said the executive.

These controls were reestablished on March 16 and do not affect Spanish citizens or foreigners residing in Spain , nor do they affect the transport of goods and cross-border workers.
