Children least affected by coronavirus China scientists reveal MARK R. CRISTINO
According to two Chinese studies, children infected with Covid-19 tend to recover and have minor symptoms. The results are released in a context in which, until noon on Saturday, the virus has infected more than 153,000 people and killed 5,789 worldwide.
“We still don’t understand why there are so few children among confirmed cases worldwide,” Ben Cowling, professor of public health at the University of Hong Kong, told the South China Morning Post.
The Guangzhou Women’s and Children’s Medical Center study examined 10 infected children , aged between two months and 15 years. Although they had symptoms similar to those of a cold, the radiographs determined that they lacked the serious signs caused by the coronavirus and, finally, all recovered.
Six other children who tested positive and were tested at Tongji Hospital recovered in seven and a half days after admission, although one of them did require intensive care in his 13 days of recovery.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said on February 18 that “it is not possible to determine the extent of the infection among children or if they are less susceptible”, although it recognized that only 2.5 percent of cases develop serious reactions.

As of this Saturday, the number of people infected by the coronavirus in the world amounts to more than 61,000 confirmed cases and more than 5,000 deaths.
