With these steps you can translate a phrase in a WhatsApp chat into the language you want.

WhatsApp is the most widely used instant messaging platform in the world, with billions of users connected and exchanging messages, voice notes, emojis, and stickers, an application that also allows you to make calls, video calls and even translate a phrase into another language while you are writing it.

You may be meeting someone abroad and you don’t quite master a language, or you want to surprise someone with a phrase in French, or perhaps you simply want to share a phrase in another language. To do this, the first thing that comes to mind is to have to exit the application, go to the translator installed on the phone or go to the google translator website.

Going from program to program, changing windows from one to another can take an amount of time that may seem annoying, so it takes us longer to answer a friend’s message or to send that phrase in another language in a chat or group.

However, there is a trick that can be used in WhatsApp to translate a sentence into another language exactly at the moment we are writing it.

These are the steps to follow to be able to translate a phrase in a WhatsApp chat on Android. We share them below:

  • Check that WhatsApp is updated to its latest version from the Google Play Store.
  • Check if the smartphone has the keyboard developed by Google, Gboard, installed. To do this, you need to go to the Android app store and search for Gboard.
  • If you download the app for the first time, the smartphone will ask you to select the new keyboard in the language and input settings with a pop-up message. Then select Gboard as the default input method.
  • When you confirm that it is installed, open a conversation on WhatsApp.
  • Pull down the keyboard and click on the three horizontal dots and look for the Translator option.
  • More than 100 languages will appear and you can choose the one you require.
  • Select one, for example, English, and as you write in Spanish you will see how it is automatically translated. As long as you write ‘Hello, how are you?’ on the keyboard, in

WhatsApp it will appear ‘Hello, how are you?’

In this way, you can send your contacts any phrase in any of the 100 languages available in Gboard, without having to leave WhatsApp and go to some version of Google translator.
