Whatsapp is an instant messaging application that is used in much of the world. In the chats, we save important conversations that we have with family, friends, work or entertainment. The information that we handle in the app can be from inconsequential things to confidential data or data with a high impact on our lives.
If at any time one of the chats we have is deleted, we would lose the information forever. Since the app incorporated the function of deleting sent messages, there are many occasions in which we would like to recover what we have not read or simply want to keep. That is why I think about recovering messages on Whatsapp, here we have all the options:
Backup
If a conversation was deleted, we must bear in mind that it will surely be saved in the last backup that was made. The backup settings can be changed within the app and there is an option to make it daily and you can adjust the time in which the backup of all the contacts and groups with which we interact is required.
You can also activate that only the text is saved or that it includes multimedia messages and documents, that it is with Wi-Fi or with data or if you want it to be copied to Google Drive.
Each backup is kept for a period of seven days, so if you want to recover the last one, it will be good to see how long it has been since the last automatic data recovery. To configure the backup of your WhatsApp account in detail, follow these steps:
- Open the app.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
- Choose the “chats” section.
- Click on “backup.
- Ideally, the copy should be made daily, so that it is updated all the time.
How to recover the last backup?
If you do not have conversations that you had a few hours ago, what you have to do is reset the WhatsApp history.
- Uninstall the app.
- Install the app.
- Register your phone.
- Choose the latest backup.
- In a few moments, you will have all the information saved in the latest copy available on your screen.
Restore WhatsApp
If you need to recover a deleted chat or message (less than 7 days ago), sent or received, we will follow a similar process.
- Delete the app.
- Install the app.
- Register your phone.
- Click on “restore chat history”.
Retrieve a copy from many days ago
If it’s a longer backup, go to Google Drive and check the backup files you have saved up to that point.
- We go to the device file folder: internal/WhatsApp/Databases.
- Files with the following type name: msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12, indicate the backup save the date.
- Select the files of the day you want to recover.
- Uninstall the app.
- Install the app.
- Click on “restore backup”.
If you have iOS: the conversations will be saved in the Apple cloud, so you have to:
- Go to Settings>iCloud.
- Activate “Documents and data” (to have access to backup copies).
- Then follow the above procedure.
Manage backups
You can have a security app installed that allows us to have backup copies of our instant messaging applications and thus, make them as many times as we deem appropriate. In this way, messages or chats that we have deleted by mistake can be recovered.
Recover deleted messages
Since WhatsApp allows you to delete messages, it has been a problem when trying to recover them. However, it is possible to recover messages that others have deleted with apps that recover this information, such as AutoRDM: Recover Messages.
Notification log widget
There are widgets that can help us know what we received per the notification, such as UltData on iOS and Android. This friend will show us the complete information of our smartphone such as the notification icon, sound, application, priority, visibility, among other things.
