Apple WWDC 2022: The WWDC of 2022 will not be only software: Apple could also launch two new Macs

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg suggests that one of the two new Macs that Apple could announce at WWDC is the long-awaited MacBook Air.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman suggests that WWDC 2022 won’t just focus on software news. The analyst has revealed in his weekly newsletter that Apple could also announce two new Macs during the developer conference that will take place from June 6 to 10. Among them, is the expected MacBook Air.

Gurman points out that the 2022 WWDC seems to be a good place to announce new Mac models. Especially considering that the transition from Intel chip to Apple Silicon was announced at this event. “Apple is gearing up to launch some new Macs in the coming months. What better place to do it than WWDC? It’s where the transition from Intel’s Mac to Apple’s chips was announced two years ago,” he details. He also assures that his sources have told him about the arrival of “two new Macs in the middle of the year or the beginning of the second half”, dates that coincide with the company’s developer conference.

The journalist believes that one of these Macs could be the long-awaited MacBook Air, a model that has been leaking for months and that could come with a lot of news. Among them, is the inclusion of a more powerful processor than the current M1 chip – probably an improved M1 chip or an M2 chip – and a new design, betting on new colors, white frames, and flat edges. Gurman doesn’t elaborate on the second Mac Apple could announce at WWDC 2022, but it’s likely to be the Mac Pro. The company revealed at the Peek Performance event that this latest model is on the way.

Beyond Macs: the possible novelties of WWDC 2022

In parallel to Macs, Gurman has also revealed that WWDC 2022, as usual, will focus on the announcement of new versions of the respective operating systems. You don’t expect aesthetic news in iOS 16, but you do expect significant improvements in the area of notifications and health. He also believes that iPadOS could come with new multitasking.

The Bloomberg journalist also expects to see signs of rOS, the operating system that will arrive alongside Apple’s virtual reality glasses, in the different versions of iOS that are announced in the coming months. He believes, in particular, that although the glasses will not be launched during WWDC -the hardware news will be focused on Macs-, they will arrive “during the cycle of iOS 16”.
