Facebook: so you can control who can find you with your email or phone number

Do you want to prevent anyone from looking for you on Facebook using your personal data? This feature makes it possible.

Thanks to its worldwide popularity, it’s easy to find anyone on Facebook. In this sense, the social network offers us the possibility of searching for someone by means of their username, email address, or telephone number, which is more likely to locate them.

However, if you want to prevent other users, especially strangers, from using this personal information to locate your profile on the platform, Facebook has a series of privacy options that will allow you to control who can search for you with the help of this data.

How to control who can find you on Facebook?

This setting can be enabled both from a smartphone and from a computer. Here are the steps to follow depending on the device you use:

From computer:

  1. Login to Facebook and log into your account
  2. Press the down arrow button in the upper right corner of the screen
  3. Click Settings & Privacy, then Settings
  4. From the left column panel access the Privacy tab
  5. Go to the section How others can find and contact you
  6. Modify the settings on who can find you on Facebook with your email address and/or phone number.

From smartphone:

  1. Open the Facebook app from an iOS or Android device
  2. Tap the three-line icon located in the upper right corner of the screen
