Christian McCaffrey
Christian McCaffrey sustained a strained hamstring in the Panthers’ victory against the Texans on Thursday night, according to Carolina head coach Matt Rhule. Rhule also said that he does not know the extent of the harm.
In the second quarter, McCaffrey exited the field and walked into the blue medical tent after a run in which he could be seen dragging his leg after no contact. McCaffrey was later confirmed to be out on the broadcast, and the Panthers followed suit soon after.
While the condition or timing for McCaffrey’s comeback is unclear, Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold said he said CMC to spend his time and ensure he’s completely healed when he returns.
“We’ll be all right without him,” Darnold assured. “Obviously, we want him back, but I want him to take his time right now and make sure he’s ready for the end of the season.”
Due to shoulder and ankle complications, McCaffrey’s 2020 season was cut short to three games.
McCaffrey appeared like himself heading into the second quarter on Monday. All of that changed on a nine-yard rush off left tackle, during which he went out of limits and into the medical tent.
Carolina’s running backs Chuba Hubbard and Royce Freeman will now play a larger part in the backfield.
McCaffrey finished the night with seven runs for 31 yards and two receptions for nine yards.
The big issue now is how much more output CMC can provide the Panthers this season.
