Utd Vs Charlton
Manchester United are seeking to follow up their comfortable success in the FA Cup by winning a position in the Carabao Cup semi-finals when they face Charlton Athletic.
Erik ten Hag is enjoying a fortunate era in his administration of the club after overseeing a run of seven straight wins in competitive action. United are now five victories from five games since the post-World Cup restart, with Friday’s 3-1 success over Everton their latest triumph.
The Carabao Cup probably provides United their best chance of silverware, with the Red Devils second favourites to capture the cup behind rivals Manchester City. But League One Charlton stand in their way in the quarter-finals and will attempt to put their mediocre record behind them to produce an upset at Old Trafford.
When is Man Utd vs Charlton?
The two sides will face in the Carabao Cup quarter-final game at Old Trafford on Tuesday, January 10, with kick-off slated for 8pm.
It will be the first meeting between the two since Charlton were last in the Premier League back in 2007. United inflicted a 2-0 loss that day as the Addicks hurtled towards the Championship, with Park Ji-Sung and Darren Fletcher grabbing the goals.
What channel is it on?
The game has not been scheduled for live TV viewing since Newcastle’s encounter with Leicester has been selected by Sky Sports for broadcast instead.
However, MUTV will be broadcasting pre-match build-up and post-match analysis, along with live radio match commentary, which is also available via the United App and on ManUtd.com. Highlights will be available from 1am on Sky Sports the following morning.
Erik ten Hag will certainly try to make changes for the visit of League One opponents, particularly with the Manchester derby on the horizon at the weekend.
That might offer a start to Harry Maguire, who may step back in as captain with Bruno Fernandes out due to suspension. Donny van de Beek is still nursing an injury incurred against Bournemouth with no word on the Dutchman’s return to play just yet.
It is likely Anthony Martial would be rested after playing against Everton, with Ten Hag admitting he is monitoring the striker’s workload, while Jadon Sancho is still not ready for first-team duties.
New signing Jack Butland could easily make his debut, however. Butland has replaced Martin Dubravka as United’s back-up stopper, who started the last round triumph over Aston Villa. David de Gea’s error against Everton may be a great occasion to move the Spaniard out of the firing line and give Butland his first bow for the Red Devils.
