“Go with Ukrainian symbols to defend Ukraine, to defend freedom, to defend life!,” launched Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a video message in English. “Meet in the squares, in the street, show yourself and make yourself heard!”

In a fiery speech on the eve of the date marking the first month of the Russian invasion, Mr Zelensky called on the world to “stand up against war from March 24”.

“Speak out, demonstrate from your offices, your homes, your schools and your universities, demonstrate in the name of peace!” hammered President Zelenskyy.

Hundreds of civilians have been killed, hundreds more injured and more than three million Ukrainians have fled their country since Russia began invading it on February 24 to put an end to its pro-Western ambitions.
