The Washington Post confirmed the emails from Biden’s son that implicate him in an alleged corruption scheme; the investigation continues

This week, the American newspaper, The Washington Post, confirmed that the emails found on a laptop do belong to Hunter Biden, son of the president of the United States, Joe Biden.

The New York Post reported on October 14, 2020, that among the emails are messages suggesting that Hunter introduced his father to a senior executive at the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings in 2015 when he was vice president.

The following year, Joe Biden was reported to have pressured the US government to fire a prosecutor who had launched an investigation against the company.

“The verified emails cover a period from 2009 to 2019, when Hunter Biden was acting as a consultant to companies in China and Ukraine, and exploring opportunities in several other countries. His father was vice president from 2009 to 2017,” the Washington Post wrote.

The emails could be validated by cryptographic signatures, as explained by the American newspaper, and were analyzed by two cybersecurity experts.

Just this week, a federal jury heard testimony in recent months about the income and payments Hunter Biden received while serving on the board of a Ukrainian energy company, according to two people familiar with the investigation.

It is unclear if he could be charged. But the grand jury activity underscores that a federal tax investigation into President Biden‘s son, which began in 2018, remains active, as prosecutors continue to examine foreign payments and other aspects of his finances.

Witnesses in recent months have been questioned about payments Hunter Biden received while serving on the Burisma board, the people familiar with the investigation said.

Republicans tried to make Hunter’s business dealings in Ukraine a prominent issue during the 2020 presidential election.

A year earlier, then-President Donald Trump tried to pressure his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodimir Zelensky, to launch investigations into the Bidens at the same time that Zelensky was seeking military assistance from the United States
