York Regional Police have released footage from a surveillance camera showing a black Audi crashing through the main doors of Vaughan Mills before driving across the mall and exiting through another set of doors.
A black 2011 Audi A4 with Quebec license plate X10 SNP entered the mall through Entrance 6 at around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the police.
Multiple camera angles seem to show the automobile driving through the glass doors and around the mall in this video. The video allegedly shows the Audi driving out of Entrance 1 through a separate set of glass doors.
Sgt. Clint Whitney said the two suspects in the automobile drove to an electronics store, where they “broke into the store and then proceeded to seize a lot of electronic devices.”
The police footage does not depict the actual burglary of the electronics store. According to Whitney, once inside the Audi again, they drove through the shopping center and out a different exit. He says he saw the automobile last on Jane Street.
Thankfully, no one was hurt during this event. Still, it’s a stunning and bold crime,” Whitney remarked. “That car looked like it was going to the mall,” someone said. He added that the vehicle’s Quebec license plate had been reported stolen and that a manhunt was under way.
As far as she can tell, Whitney stated the mall’s inside appears unharmed, though she did mention that the mall’s entrances and the electronics store had been damaged during the robbery.
Approximately 4:40 p.m., police updated the public, saying they had identified the vehicle, and that it will be inspected for evidence. If you know anything, please report it to the police or Crime stoppers.
