Russia’s top-ranking general got killed by a Ukrainian sniper

Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky was reportedly killed by a well-aimed shot from a Ukrainian sniper.

Major General Andrey Sukhovetsky, deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army of Russia’s Central Military District, was killed on Wednesday, March 2, when Ukrainian troops responded to the Russian offensive.

The death was confirmed by the Russian Ministry of Defense and was also published by his colleague Sergey Chipilyov through his social networks. In addition, the news was spread in various Russian and Ukrainian media.

Local media have reported that the sniper shot the Russian general from a distance of approximately 1,500 meters.

For his part, Chipilyov of the Union of Russian Parachute Airborne Forces confirmed Sukhovetsky’s death on social media earlier today, March 3. This has been considered by the media as irrefutable proof of the general’s death.

“It is with great sadness that we received the tragic news of the death of our friend, Major General Andrey Aleksandrovich Sukhovetsky, in Ukraine during a special operation. We express our deepest condolences to his family,” written in the message.

Sukhovetsky was 47 years old and a highly decorated veteran who was appointed Deputy Army Commander of the 41st Division in October 2021. For his part, Chipilyov of the Union of Russian Parachute Airborne Forces confirmed Sukhovetsky’s death on social media earlier today, March 3. This has been considered by the media as irrefutable proof of the general’s death.

“It is with great sadness that we received the tragic news of the death of our friend, Major General Andrey Aleksandrovich Sukhovetsky, in Ukraine during a special operation. We express our deepest condolences to his family,” the message read.

Prior to that, he commanded the 7th Airborne Assault Division in Novorossiysk for three years, completing several combat deployments in the Chechen war, the Abkhaz conflict, and the Syrian intervention.

Sukhovetsky twice participated in the Victory Parade on Moscow’s Red Square and was awarded two Orders of Valor, the Order of Military Merit and the Medal of Valor.
