Ranking of the 50 best cities in the world for women entrepreneurs

Dell Technology Company introduced the 2017 Women Entrepreneur Cities Index (WE Cities) Index, which reveals the 50 best cities in the world for women entrepreneurs and how they are building their potential.

Dell presented the report within the framework of the eighth annual conference of the women entrepreneurs network in San Francisco, USA, which brought together more than 150 founders, directors, dignitaries and industry leaders.

Based on the WE Cities 2016 survey, Dell rates the cities listed based on the impact of local policies, programs and features, as well as national laws and customs.

However, five specific categories were taken into account for this analysis: capital, technology, talent, culture and markets. These pillars, in turn, were organized into two groups: operating environment and enabling environment.

One of the outstanding results is that of the first 10 cities in the general list, six are in the United States, two in Europe, one in Canada and one in Asia. New York ranks number one among the 50 cities for its ability to attract and support high-potential entrepreneurial women.

To conduct this research, which measures a city’s ability to attract and support high-potential entrepreneurial women, Dell partnered with IHS Markit, a leading source of valuable and analytical information that determines the current business landscape.

The report concludes that access to capital remains the main challenge faced by women entrepreneurs, although the figures indicate a slight improvement.

“The creation of a solid ecosystem with incubators, accelerators and mentors helps a lot to the entrepreneurs; The contacts are the most important thing, “added the document.

As part of this research it was also determined that cultural norms and their political implications significantly affect entrepreneurs around the world.

“Around the world, women’s entrepreneurship rates are growing by more than 10% each year. Also, in many markets, the likelihood of a woman founding a business is equal to or greater than the likelihood of a man doing it, “said Karen Quintos, executive vice president and chief customer services at Dell.

Despite these advances, the directive emphasized that there are still “financial, cultural and political obstacles that can limit its success”.

On the side, Dell-based businesswoman Elizabeth Gore said the success of women entrepreneurs is beneficial to the world. In addition, she noted that the WE Cities index can be used as a diagnostic tool to help ensure that legislators facilitate the success of women entrepreneurs.

“Each of the cities on the list can learn from the others and encourage political change to attract and support women entrepreneurs. The change will be felt not only in the city but also throughout the world as we develop an ecosystem in which all entrepreneurs can succeed regardless of their gender, “he said.
