Cancun International Airport remains unharmed by worldwide cancellations

It records an average of 600 daily flights, more than 400 of which are international, despite the fact that hundreds have been halted globally owing to the Omicron variation; in Vallarta, the cruise liner remains without disembarking 69 passengers with Covid.

The Mexican Government’s Secretariats of Health and Tourism said that they will accept all cruise ships that wish to dock in the country’s marine ports, in accordance with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Health Regulations.

Both authorities stated in a statement that if passengers on cruise ships exhibit signs of Covid-19 illness or test positive for the virus, they would get the necessary medical assistance.

Passengers who do not exhibit symptoms will be allowed to participate in tourist activities as long as they adhere to basic preventative measures such as the usage of face masks, frequent hand washing, the use of gel, and maintaining a healthy distance.

Policy of solidarity and brotherhood

The announcement comes after a cruise ship based in Topolobampo, Sinaloa, was refused admission to two marine ports in our nation on December 27 due to the presence of Covid-19 in 19 crew members.

In light of this, the agencies claimed that the cruise will be welcomed in the port of Guaymas, Sonora, with the cooperation of that entity’s administration.

“Because our country adheres to a policy of solidarity and fraternity, as well as the principle of non-discrimination toward all people, the health and tourism authorities are awaiting authorization to provide necessary medical assistance to those who visit us for recreational, work, or other purposes. commercial and academic, as well as other activities conducted in accordance with applicable national legislation,” they stated.

Yesterday, a second cruise ship carrying 69 affected passengers was unable to disembark in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, following confirmation of an outbreak of positive cases.

To avoid a slowdown in tourist activity and despite the fact that almost 8,000 flights have been cancelled worldwide to prevent the spread of the Omicron type, Cancun is experiencing its busiest period, with an average of 600 daily flights, including more than 400 foreign flights.

According to Eduardo Rivadeneyra, media manager for Airports of the Southeast (Asur), operations have not been cancelled as a result of the variation or even snowfall in neighbouring countries. Only 617 flights were registered on December 18, and 582 on Monday.
