Following the detention of nearly 500 people suspected of having ties to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, an Uttar Pradesh man was arrested on suspicion of being a Pakistani spy.
Officials said the culprit, a guy from Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended here on Sunday. He is suspected of sharing information on important infrastructure with Pakistan-based terrorists, including through videos.
He was apprehended by the Jammu & Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group in the Gandhi Nagar area, they added.
The issue arose in the wake of widespread indignation over a recent spate of deliberate killings of civilians in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials claimed that a case has been filed under relevant provisions of the law, and that further investigation is underway.
The apprehended person allegedly shared videos of important installations, including places of worship, with his Pakistani handlers, according to preliminary inquiry.
In another example, police in Jammu apprehended a thief who had stolen a pistol from the Nagrota neighbourhood.
According to a police officer, Mohd Mushtaq, alias Gungi, took the firearm from a guy in the Miran Sahib region lately and fled underground.
He also claimed that the stolen pistol had been found.
“The apprehended person is a well-known criminal who has been charged with a variety of offences at several police stations, including theft, rape, bovine animal smuggling, and narcotics,” the officer stated.
