Chelsea is losing pace on Liverpool due to Werner’s Corona illness

The corona wave is sweeping across English football, and it has even engulfed German national team player Timo Werner: Werner tested positive and was unavailable for the game against FC Everton, FC Chelsea announced on the sidelines, as was DFB teammate Kai Havertz.

Havertz is suspected of being infected, although this has yet to be proven. On top of that, five games were cancelled on Thursday.

In addition to Werner, Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel said that Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and the injured Ben Chilwell tested positive.
“It began yesterday with the players feeling uncomfortable and unable to practise,” stated Tuchel, whose team only managed a 1-1 (0-0) draw against Everton and is now obviously behind second-placed Liverpool FC (40) with 37 points. In London, Chelsea grabbed the lead via Mason Mount (70th minute) but was shortly levelled by Jarrad Branthwaite (74th). Antonio Rüdiger, a national player, has been with the Blues since their inception.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was looking forward to a 3:1 (2:1) victory against Newcastle United on Thursday, but he had to deal with three suspected corona cases first.
As a result, Fabinho, Curtis Jones, and Virgil van Dijk did not play against Newcastle. The Klopp-Elf went down early on thanks to a goal from Jonjo Shelvey (7th), but Diogo Jota (21st) and Mohamed Salah (25th) turned the game around before interval. The decision was taken by Trent Alexander-Arnold (87th).

Omicron variant is spreading like wildfire in the Premier League

Leicester City’s home game against Tottenham Hotspur, planned for Thursday evening, had earlier been postponed owing to a number of incidents at the hosts. In addition, four additional weekend games were cancelled on Thursday. This impacts Leicester’s away game at Everton FC on Sunday, as well as the games set on Saturday between Manchester United and team manager Ralf Rangnick vs Brighton & Hove Albion, Watford vs. Crystal Palace, and West Ham vs. Norwich City.

It was Tottenham’s third game cancellation in a row. The Conference League match against Stade Rennes, as well as the league game at Brighton & Hove Albion, had already been cancelled, as had the Manchester United match at Brentford FC and the match involving Burnley FC and Watford FC.
