Canada relaxes travel requirements for fully vaccinated Citizens

Covid-19 tests will be random and those vaccinated will no longer quarantine while awaiting results

The wave of omicron infections is descending around the world and Canada is no exception. The authorities reported that their provinces have already passed the peak of contagion and will now move forward with more sustainable long-term health measures.

Considering Canada’s high vaccination rates, the increasing availability and use of rapid tests to detect infections, and declining hospitalization rates, it was determined to relax some travel requirements for vaccinated individuals effective February 28.

1) Vaccinated travelers will no longer quarantine
Travelers will be subject to random testing for Covid-19 upon arrival in Canada; They will no longer be mandatory for everyone.

Although testing will continue to be randomized, fully vaccinated travelers with accepted doses will no longer be required to quarantine while awaiting their test result.

Children under the age of 12, traveling with fully vaccinated adults, will continue to be exempt from quarantine, with no prescribed conditions limiting their activities.

Unvaccinated travelers will still be required to be tested upon arrival on day 8 and will be required to quarantine for 14 days.

Unvaccinated foreign nationals will not be allowed to enter Canada unless they meet one of a few exemptions.

2) Canada will now accept antigen tests
Travelers will now be able to present an antigen test to enter Canada as long as the sample was taken the day before their flight or upon arrival at the land border.

If they prefer, they can continue to present their PCR molecular test taken no more than 72 hours before the scheduled flight.

3) Openness to travel
“The Government of Canada will adjust its Travel Health Notice from a Level 3 to a Level 2 as of February 28, 2022,” they note. This means that the government will no longer recommend that Canadians avoid travel for non-essential purposes .

However, they still ask to take precautions during travel given the ease with which omicron is transmitted.

4) International flights at all airports
On February 28, 2022, the restriction on where international flights can arrive will also expire .

International flights carrying passengers will now be able to land at all Canadian airports designated by the Canada Border Services Agency.
