Mexican driver Alex Mauro started 2022 with third place in the Rally Tierras Altas de Lorca, within the Beka RTS Junior, but he aims for the top and aspires to win the Clio Trophy Spain.
The flyer of Pueblan origin is part of two events; the already mentioned Beka RTS and the Clio Trophy Spain, both with six dates in the year; he has already obtained a podium in the first and the second begins with the Sierra Morena Rally, to be held on April 1 and 2.
“It is our main championship (Clio Trophy Spain), we have the goal of winning it since it is with a car of a lower category and it is among young people from 18 to 24 years old. It is a pretty good championship, with a prize of 30 thousand euros and a year of sponsorship for the national championship with a better car,” Alex Mauro assured exclusively with La Razón.
Within the two championships, the Mexican driver is looking to accumulate kilometres that will serve as experience to reach the WRC. While the Clio Trophy Spain starts, the member of Xevi Pons Rally Academia and Mapo Motorsports is competing in the Beka RTS Junior.
“It is a championship for young promises between 18 and 22 years old. I am very happy and excited, the car that we are going to race this year is new and that leaves us very happy,” he said.
Alex Mauro, the only foreigner in the Beka RTS Junior
The car that Alex Mauro will be driving this season is a Clio Rally 5 put together by Alpine Sports, with 500 horsepower and a sequential gearbox, in addition to having “great suspension and quite good brakes, it sticks too much to the asphalt and is very comfortable to handle.”
In relation to his third place in the Rally Tierras Altas de Lorca, which he achieved with a car from a lower category, the driver from Puebla said the following.
“It leaves me quite good (feelings). On our part it was a fairly clean rally, we didn’t make any mistakes and in the end, they rewarded us with third place. I was running late from Alpine,” he said.
The Mexican is the only foreign participant in the Beka RTS Junior, a contest that is organized by the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation (RFEDA) because he obtained special permission from the filmmakers.
“Beka RTS is organized by the RFEDA and it is a national championship that is done with the purpose of drawing future promises for rallying in Spain and is made up of six dates: three on asphalt and three on dirt, with a Rally 4 car and it is for competitors from 18 to 25 years old, which can push you to compete in the European Rally Championship”, he pointed out.
In this same sense, the young driver from Baritos added: “I am the only foreign driver, they gave me a private invitation”, and ended by saying: “being exclusively for Spaniards, (with permission) they let us compete and we have the option of winning it because we are in the Mapo Motorsport team that has a good relationship with the Spanish Automobile Federation”.
