George Garofano, “hacker” accused of intervening more than 200 email accounts of Hollywood stars and filtering intimate material of celebrities, including actress Jennifer Lawrence, has been sentenced to eight months in prison.
According to a statement from the US Department of Justice, Garofano, 26, participated in a fraud scheme to obtain the usernames and passwords of the Apple iCloud accounts of his victims.
Subsequently, he stole personal information, including “sensitive and private” photographs and videos, which he often shared with third parties.
The person implicated was released after posting bail of $ 50,000 and must appear in prison on October 10. He was also forced to serve 60 hours of community service while on probation.
The well-known “Celebgate” took place between November 2013 and August 2014. Other victims include celebrities such as Rihanna, Kate Upton, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Kirsten Dunst and Avril Lavigne.
Subsequently, two cyber criminals were arrested in connection with the incident and locked up in US federal prisons: Edward Majerczyk for a maximum of five years and Ryan Collins for around 18 months.
