Zoë Kravitz: The journey from being rejected in the movie Dark Knight Rises to being the star of The Batman

The co-star actress of The Batman recently recounted how she received rejections in the past to play a role in Batman

One of the most attractive things about the new film The Batman is Zoë Kravitz‘s performance in the role of the iconic Selina Kyle, better known as Catwoman. Her on-screen chemistry with her co-star Robert Pattinson is one of the high points of the film.

However, despite her great talent, Kravitz recently revealed that in the past she has not been welcomed with open arms in a Dark Knight production: in that case, the sequel films of the Christian Bale trilogy.

In 2015, the actress, daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, revealed that she couldn’t “get an audition for a small role that they were casting,” recounting for Nylon: “It was like, ‘what does that have to do with what?’ “.

Now, in an interview for The Observer, Kravitz, who is of Dominican and Jewish-American descent, spoke about the rejection, saying he doesn’t know “if that came directly from Chris Nolan (the film’s director)”: ” I think it was probably a casting director of some sort of an assistant casting director,” Kravitz said.

“Being a woman of colour and being an actress and being told at the time that I couldn’t audition because of the colour of my skin, and being told the word ‘urban’ that way, that was really hard at the time”.

It is unknown which role Kravitz wanted to audition for, but it is believed to be Catwoman’s roommate Jen, played by Juno Temple.

Kravitz is now one of the stars of the Matt Reeves film, The Batman, where many fans already raise her to be the best ‘Catwoman’ in cinema, above the interpretations of Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, or Anne Hathaway.
