It was the first role Gonzalez landed in the United States, and she considers moving to the United States the most momentous professional decision she has ever made. However, she upset some of her fans by going to Hollywood.
Mexican actress Eiza González has been consistently working with some of the biggest names in Hollywood for years. In the thriller “Ambulance,” she found herself under the tutelage of action buff Michael Bay while starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, and in “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw,” her co-stars included Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Idris Elba and Jason Statham.
Gonzalez ‘s previous work impressed Johnson so much that she and the “Fast & Furious” crew changed their filming schedule so she could appear in the film, according to Collider .
This allowed her to film “Godzilla vs. Kong” as well, but she had to make a sacrifice to make it all work. “It was the holidays. So I remember being like, ‘I’m willing to not have a holiday if I can go do that,'” she said. Two years earlier, the dedicated actress herself worked with Ansel Elgort and Lily James in the 2017 film “Baby Driver,” which marked a turning point in her career. “It was my first big movie,” Gonzalez told ContentMode. “The dynamic with the cast and [director] Edgar Wright was so much fun.
Prior to that, Gonzalez made a splash on the TV series “From Dusk Till Dawn” as Santanico Pandemonium, the snake-charming vampire originally played by Salma Hayek.
Why Eiza González’s Instagram followers complained about her posts?
Before taking Hollywood by storm, Eiza González made a name for herself in her native country by starring in the telenovela “Lola: once upon a time.”
She later told V Magazine, “I’ve never really liked defining myself as something specific, especially since I started [my career] in the early 2000s in a country that puts you in a specific box for a long time.”
Once Gonzalez stepped out of that box, his fan base grew to include many English-speakers, and she was using the language of Hollywood on his Instagram page. According to People , his Spanish-speaking fans were not happy about this.
When González shared a book recommendation in 2018, she was criticized for putting a caption only in English.
In a since-deleted reply, she explained that the translate button wouldn’t work properly if you included multiple languages in an Instagram post. “I don’t understand this that because I write in a global language I feel less Mexican. It’s just looking for excuses to criticize, that’s my opinion,” she added.
But since then, González has shared a series of posts in Spanish or Spanish and English, including a call to action on climate change and an announcement that she had been named Bulgari’s first Latina ambassador for North America. “Being an immigrant woman, being part of the brand in North America, it sends a strong message,” she told People.
How Eiza González pays homage to her roots with her film roles
Eiza González told V Magazine that she considers herself a global citizen, revealing that she was just 15 years old when she left Mexico for New York. However, she has never forgotten her roots. “I love Mexico City. I have nothing but amazing memories,” she told ContentMode.
While Gonzalez has made waves by starring in several popcorn movies with flashy special effects and fast-paced action sequences, she has also sought out roles that remind him of his heritage. In the 2021 animated film “Spirit Untamed” she plays a Mexican rodeo performer. “I was so excited to make this film because to be able to portray my culture in such an uplifting way and then to be able to speak my language in a film like this and sing in my language was such a unique experience,” González said.
The actress also celebrates her culture by making sure certain stories are told. In 2021, Deadline reported that she was producing and starring in a biopic about legendary Mexican actress María Félix.
Another big career goal for González is to create more opportunities for other Mexican women working in the entertainment industry.
She told V Magazine: “I’m moving to a place where my platform is getting a little bit bigger and I want to be able to use that and provide more opportunities for my people and the talented cinematographers, writers and actresses that we have in our country.”
