Over the past few months, writer Chip Zdarsky, along with cartoonists such as Jorge Jiménez, Belén Ortega and Leonardo Bastos Romero, have marked the beginning of a “new era” in the main Batman comic.
This involved the start of a saga where The Penguin fakes his own murder, framing the Batman along the way. The problem is that this situation, widely publicized through the media, unleashes the activation of an artificial intelligence called Failsafe, which is basically a robotic resource created by Batman himself in the event that his own figure becomes a threat.
From there, Failsafe begins to give Batman one buzz after another, smoothly dispatching the entire Bat family and even defeating Superman, Green Arrow, The Martian Man hunter and Aquaman.
Next Tuesday, in an issue entitled “The Dark Fall”, the final confrontation between Batman and his own creation will take place, but the Bleeding Cool portal has already anticipated what the result of the confrontation will be.
This is a situation that promises to once again change Gotham’s status quo after the catastrophes caused in recent years by Bane and the Joker.
Spoilers to continue.
And against all odds, Batman assures Tim Drake that “it’s okay.” But before he can finish the sentence, a trigger will be fired and the bat will be turned to ash.
With Batman’s death at the hands of Failsafe, who ratifies the deletion, the program proceeds to start its termination process after accomplishing its task.
For now it is not clear what will happen to Batman, since in the past the bat man has already “died” after injuring Darkseid.
During the penultimate issue of the Final Crisis event , Batman received the Omega Sanction from the powerful villain which sent him on multiple trips back in time to continually live and die in a nightmare loop.
On the other hand, Batman is obviously the most successful character in DC Comics, so these kinds of stories are only temporary. Furthermore, there could well be a new story in which Bruce Wayne fakes his own death – paralleling the Penguin’s action – in order to deactivate his own creation.
The synopsis of the next number, which will be published in January of next year, suggests that something along these lines could be generated.
According to that preview, Batman 131 will present how “Gotham City has never been darker or deadlier. And after Failsafe, there’s no Batman to save her. Can the fractured ghost that roams the streets survive? What happened to the man known as…Bruce Wayne?
