Stranger Things on Netflix: why Eleven had difficulty speaking

In the first season of “Stranger Things”, the character of Eleven is mute and has difficulty expressing herself, which is not the case for the other children in the laboratory. The creators of the series explain why.

When Eleven ( Millie Bobby Brown ) makes her appearance in the first season of Stranger Things, the heroine appears frightened, but mostly mute. Hawkins’ gang tries to communicate with her anyway to figure out where she came from and to find their missing friend, Will ( Noah Schnapp ). It takes several episodes before the character finds the words to speak.

However, in the flashback scenes of season 4, the other children held in the laboratory of the city express themselves without difficulty. In an interview with Variety, the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, reveal the reasons for this heroine-specific speech problem.

“She is raised the same way as the other children, explains Matt Duffer, but afterward she falls into a coma, wakes up, and has no memory of these events, before being raised in isolation by Doctor Brenner, who doesn’t dare bring another child for fear of it happening again.”

“So she lives alone, in an isolated room. This is the Eleven you meet in season 1. After two years of isolation and very limited memories of what happened. This is one of the reasons for his communication problems.”

The creator and screenwriter say that viewers will discover more in Volume 2, available on Netflix on July 1. This second part consists of two episodes, 8 and 9. The duration of the final chapter has also been confirmed: it will last 2 hours and 19 minutes. Still a little patience.
