stranger things eleven
If you haven’t seen the first part of Season 4 of Stranger Things and don’t want to be spoiled, it’s best not to read the rest of this article. Don’t hesitate to (re)discover our summary article of the first 3 seasons of the series!
This is probably the most popular theory but also the most probable. In the Season 4 Part 1 trailer, we got a glimpse of Eddie (Joseph Quinn), in the upside down playing guitar on the roof of his trailer. As a reminder, the last time we see the group of Steve, Nancy, Robin, Eddie, Dustin, Max, and Lucas, Nancy is attacked by Vecna like Max in episode 4. Steve and Nancy are still upside down, right outside the portal in Eddie’s trailer that will take them back to the real world. The rest of the group is waiting for them just on the other side.
Stranger Things on Netflix: why Eleven had difficulty speaking
Eddie talks several times about not being as brave as Steve, Nancy, and Robin throughout the season. But we feel that he is a character who has a good background and wants to be a better person. It is therefore completely believable that he joins his two new friends upside down in order to save Nancy. We also know that it is music that can save a person from Vecna’s grasp. Eddie being a musician (he even says he is part of a band) it is totally plausible that he knows how to play a piece that will wake up Nancy. To perfect this theory, we already see Eddie’s guitar in the first episode of the season, and Eddie addresses it, saying that “it will be for later”… Coincidence?
Stranger Things is a super-rich universe, but above all very well-written characters with a crazy evolution. This is the case of Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) who went from an unbearable little stalker to a “favorite fan” in a few seasons. In this season 4, Stranger Things develops a friendship between Nancy and Robin, two very different female characters who manage to form a funny, dynamic, and interesting duo. When they are upside-down, they find themselves in Nancy’s room. Robin discovers a music box there that Nancy owns and she notices knowing the song that is playing. We also know that Robin has a great memory. What if it was her, and not Eddie, who saved Nancy? What if it was Robin singing her the song from her music box?
It is almost a certainty more than a true theory. Although the Mind Flyer was pushed back into the Upside Down in Season 3, we know that it is the monster that rules the Upside Down. We also know that he wants to become the master of the real world. In Season 4, that’s still what the show’s characters argue. Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) feels Vecna is kind of the Mind Flyer’s right-hand man. Let it be said, Dustin is still rarely wrong… This would mean that the end of the series should end with a victory against the Vecna AND the Mind Flyer. Also, after the animated posters were released on the official Stranger Things Instagram account, we can see Will (Noah Schnapp) put his hand on the back of his neck. The last time this happened, the Mind Flyer was back!
The big revelation in this season, we learn that Eleven is the one who opened the very first portal to the upside-down. This event occurs when she must fight against One (Jamie Campbell Bower), who is none other than Vecna. In this scene, we can see that the effect that is used when the heroine sends One upside down is exactly the same as when she would hypothetically kill the Demogorgon from season 1. So we can conclude that he was not killed but simply sent back upside down, like Vecna. There, the Russians would have found and captured him. This would also explain why Eleven didn’t die but was transported to the Upside Down at the end of Season 1.
It was Joyce (Winona Ryder) who first said “Will is a sensitive child”. An artist at heart, we have always seen him draw in the first seasons. However, we feel that the painting he does in season 4 is special. He also carries it with him throughout his adventures in season 4. It is obviously a painting for Mike (Finn Wolfhard), his best friend. But we still don’t know what it represents… Although this season 4 shows us that Will would have more ambiguous feelings for his friend, it remains unlikely that the painting represents a true declaration of love.
We rather think that this painting could represent all the members of the group, namely Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will. Maybe even Max and Eleven. Maybe even each of them is in D&D attire? Remember this episode in which Will disguises himself (season 3)! Will has always shown his nostalgia for the time when the group of friends could play together without worrying about their love stories or even… saving the world.
Netflix’s big mistake with ‘Stranger Things 4’ has nothing to do with how good or bad the season is
