Finally and despite the rumors that Marvel Studios was trying to convince Disney to bring back James Gunn, everything seems to indicate that both companies will maintain the initial decision of not having the filmmaker to direct the future “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol .3”.
According to reports Variety, both parties would have made this decision after a meeting, this past Tuesday, between Gunn and the studio’s president, Alan Horn. Media sources also point out that although Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was unable to attend the meeting due to scheduling problems, it would support the company’s decision.
For his part, Gunn and his representatives would have been pushing for a second chance. However, the media states that although the meeting was described as “civil and professional”, Horn decided to only attend as a “courtesy” with the director to explain both the situation and his decision.
Despite having the support of the cast of the film, which even came to write and sign a letter in which they supported the director. The mouse company would continue to believe that Gunn’s comments and tweets, which led to his dismissal during the last San Diego Comic Con, are incompatible with the company’s brand and family image.
The portal does not shed light on what will happen finally with the script of James Gunn, on which there have been also contradictory information. Variety also echoes those sources that suggest that Gunn’s script will be used for the film, but also points out that the next filmmaker who takes charge of the project may decide to polish it to his liking.
