Marilyn Monroe dress appears damaged after controversial Kardashian look

“How much is it worth spoiling the story?”, asks a user on social media when sharing a photo of Marilyn Monroe’s dress after being worn by Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala 2022. In images released by the official profile of the Marilyn Monroe collection on Instagram, the historical piece and paraded by the influencer came up with several damages. The records were made by @1morrisette last Sunday (12).

Displayed at Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, in the United States, the dress designed by the designer Jean-Louis was clicked with several differences in its original production, such as the absence of the pieces of glass — with some of them hanging by threads — and the Zipper closure with more rustic appearance.

“Was it worth it?”, asked the page The Marilyn Monroe Collection, also sharing several news about how the preservation of the dress was a priority for Kim Kardashian to wear.

On Twitter and Instagram, opinions about the current state of the dress have divided opinions. While many criticized the damage, claiming that “Kim Kardashian destroyed part of the story”, other users defend that the influencer “added even more history to the dress”.

Remembering the controversy

Kim Kardashian surprised at the 2022 edition of the Met Gala by appearing in a historic and iconic dress by Marilyn Monroe. The piece was originally used by the Hollywood actress to sing happy birthday during the birthday of the then President of the United States, John F. Kennedy.

The celebration took place at Madison Square Garden on May 19, 1962. In addition, the dress is reported to be the most expensive ever auctioned in the world at US$4.8 million – about R$24 million in 2016. For “Vogue”, Kardashian said to have lost 7 kg in a week to fit in the piece. Still, the original zipper didn’t close, which made the influencer need to wear a coat to hide the improvisation made.
