Jurassic World: The Franchise Has Never Been Further From Extinction

The prehistoric world returns to the screen for a new installment full of new adventures and a lot of nostalgia.

Life finds its way. The basic premise of Jurassic Park doesn’t just apply to the dinosaurs, but to the franchise itself. Few trilogies in the history of cinema have such resounding falls in critics and box office as those of the first three prehistoric installments. The film that started it all boasts 92% in the aggregator and a historical collection of 1 thousand 45.6 million dollars that strengthen its status as an imperishable classic. This is not the case with The Lost World and Jurassic Park III, both failed with 53% and 48%, and with respective revenues of 618.6 million dollars and 365.9 million dollars. Numbers invariably suggested that the saga was doomed to extinction.

But in the end, the great specialists in the subject made the return possible. We are not referring to the scientists of InGen, but to the mastermind of Colin Trevorrow, whose manifest passion for the original film and the work of Steven Spielberg was decisive in choosing him as the director of Jurassic World. A very peculiar fourth part that innovated in showing a fully functional park until everything collapses as a result of human ambition, but that was extremely faithful to the events seen in 1993 and, by the way, deeply nostalgic with countless references .

His 71% of the tomato meter and especially his more than 1 thousand 669.9 million dollars globally sealed the success and made it very clear what the public wanted: something new enough to get excited, but impregnated with a good dose of longing to recall the sensations. For the first time, they walked through the giant gates of Jurassic Park. Today, Jurassic World is seen as one of the first great exponents of the requel, a term recently coined to refer to all those remakes disguised as a sequel.

This time we have not had to wait 65 million years for the prehistoric reunion, but only seven since the reinvention began. Enough for Colin Trevorrow to return to the helm of a renewed franchise that feels more and more his own and for a new adventure that promises to take us where we have never gone before: a world collapsed by dinosaurs that finally made their way. All this from the hand of Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), this time reinforced by the experience of the unforgettable Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). in which it aspires to be the ultimate adventure. Welcome to Jurassic World: Dominion.
