Johnny Depp’s return to acting after his media defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard does not have the support of Netflix, as recently stated by Bloomberg.
However, the streaming giant has granted the license for the film ‘La Favorite’, which will mark the return of the star to Hollywood, to be broadcast through the platform only in France, after the period of 15 months in theaters.
A source close to the platform revealed to Variety that the information that had been spread that Netflix would finance the period film is not true. Instead, it has granted the license for its projection once it meets the requirements.
In ‘La Favourite’, Depp will play King Louis XV, an important role for the actor since he brought to life war photographer William Eugene Smith in Andrew Levitas’ 2020 film ‘Minamata’.
The new film will be directed by the French actress, screenwriter and director Maïwenn and will be shot this summer for three months in places such as the Palace of Versailles. The director will also be part of the cast as Jeanne du Barry, the countess who was the last mistress of Louis XV.
