Jennifer Lopez uses a curious way to refer to her daughter’s gender on stage

A few days ago, Jennifer Lopez participated in Dodger Stadium during the sixth annual Blue Diamond gala belonging to the Los Angeles team Foundation. As part of her performance, Lopez, 52, introduced a guest artist, her daughter Emme de Ella, 14, who she conceived during her estate with Puerto Rican singer Marc Anthony.

At the time of the presentation, the singer has referred to her daughter’s gender in a peculiar way, since she did not refer to her with any feminine word.

On this occasion, JLo introduced her using the neutral pronouns “they” and “them”, they have a gender-neutral connotation on numerous occasions.

“(The last time) we performed together was in a big stadium like this and I ask them to sing with me all the time, but they don’t,” Lopez said.

So this is a very special occasion, because they are very, very busy, secretive and expensive. They cost me when they date but they are worth every penny because they are my favorite duo pair of all time. So if you please me

Emme came out onstage shortly after where she sang the Christina Perri song “A Thousand Years.”

The shared TikTok video was captioned, “J.Lo surprises the audience with her daughter Emme and refers to her with the words ‘they’ and ‘them’ during the performance.”

One user commented, “‘They’ is how Emme identifies. This was JLo sharing that information. It’s beautiful to see her supporting her daughter.”

Support for JLo’s trans nephew

In 2020, Lopez also used the word “nibling” to introduce her trans nephew, Brendon Scholl. The word “nibling” is a neutral term used in place of the words niece or nephew.

At the time, Lopez revealed that a short film titled “Draw With Me” was “close to her heart” because it featured a member of her family, her sister Leslie’s son, who came out as transgender.

” ‘Draw With Me’ tells the story of a young transgender man and his journey to come out to his family and also engage in his art to help them cope with the feelings they had during this time,” JLo said in an Instagram post.

“It is a story that is very close to my heart because it was a family affair,” she added.

Scholl said in the video, “My name is Brendon. I use they/them/their. It was in the eighth grade that I finally felt comfortable saying I’m trans.”
