Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimi will repeat their characters as the Sanderson sisters in “Hocus Pocus 2,” the sequel to the Halloween classic that Disney released in 1993.
The film will be released in 2022 through the Disney + platform, so it will not be able to be seen in theaters, the company reported, which hopes to begin filming on the film in the fall under the direction of Anne Fletcher (“The Proposal”).
The Spanish-born filmmaker Kenny Ortega, creator of “High School Musical”, directed the first “Hokus Pocus” film, in which three sisters convicted of witchcraft in the Salem trials of 1693 were resurrected after 300 years and knew the world modern with the help of three young people.
Although the film was not a box office success at the time, it eventually gained cult status and its followers had been clamoring for the return of the characters for years.
“Sisters, 300 years have passed … but we return!” , Bette Midler ironized on her Twitter profile.
In principle, the sequel was going to be directed by Adam Shankman, but he had to give up his position to Fletcher since the filmmaker is immersed in the filming of another project that Disney has recovered for its platform: the second installment of “Enchanted”, which this time it will be titled “Disenchanted”, and will once again feature comedian Amy Adams as the lead.
