Grammy nominee and Canterbury native Mimi Webb says her childhood in Kent influenced her upcoming album on kmfm

Pop diva Mimi Webb of Kent has said that her upcoming record was inspired by her “countryside” childhood there. In an exclusive conversation with kmfm, the Canterbury-born singer—who was just nominated for her first BRIT award—shared the creative spark that drives her.

Mimi, who will soon be 22, spoke with Garry and Chelsea on kmfm breakfast to promote her upcoming album Amelia and its lead hit Red Flags. The ex-Kent College student spoke up about her love life and her nomination for best new artist at the Brit Awards.

 

She remarked, “Absolutely to be able to go this year, attending as a nominee is just mind-blowing. My family and I used to sit back home in Kent and watch the Brits every year.

“I’m going to enjoy everyone else’s happiness, soak it all in, and just go with the flow,” she said. She stated, “My songs are probably based on all my exes,” when asked about the true love event that inspired her hit Red Flags.

 

I’ve been with two serious lovers. The first one was a nice guy, but it was back in my naive love days. My most recent exes have a more “arghhh” tone. The singer who shot to stardom on Tiktok during the pandemic claims her performance at Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was the peak of her career.

Last summer, she was invited as headmaster Mark Turnbull’s guest to perform for students and faculty at the school where a piano teacher first noticed her ability. Mimi starts out her new album with a reflection on her background in Kent.

 

Mimi has stated, “It’s really thrilling to be able to put both my real name and my stage name on a record, which is why the album is titled Amelia. “It’s just the narrative of Amelia, a rural girl from Kent, and Mimi, a city girl who leaves home to do all the crazy things I’ve always wanted to do.

Everything that goes into making that development and maturation possible. There are some slower, more melancholy songs as well as other really happy tracks, so there’s something in there for everyone.

 

Mimi is a Kent County native, but she has also called Gravesend and Medway home. The EP Seven Shades of Heartbreak, as well as the singles Good Without and Before I Go, have brought her the most fame.

Mimi, a local girl, is competing against renowned names like Kojey Radical, Rina Sawayama, Sam Ryder, and Wet Leg for a BRIT award. Mimi Webb’s album is scheduled for release on March 3, but her song, “Red Flags,” is available now.
