On September 25, Google commemorates late actor Christopher Reeve with a doodle. The date would have been the actor’s 69th birthday if he had lived. Reeve passed on October 10, 2004, at the age of 52, after receiving an antibiotic for an ulcer infection, which resulted in a sudden heart failure. Reportedly, Reeve had a cardiac arrest after attending his son Will’s hockey game. To honor Superman’s birthday here’s a peek at where his offspring are today and what they’re up to.
Despite other celebrity offsprings, Reeve’s children—William, Matthew, and Alexandra—did not all choose to follow in their father’s footsteps and join the Hollywood industry. Nevertheless, they’ve established a name for themselves and have featured often in the press throughout the years. William was spotted without his pants on ‘Good Morning America’ in April 2020, and the video immediately went viral. His siblings do not seem to have been engaged in similar blunders, but they have gone on to gain renown for different reasons.
If you’re curious about Reeve’s wife, she passed in 2006 from lung cancer. Dana Reeve was just 44 years old and did not smoke. Despite this, the family has managed to overcome the loss and commemorate their parents, among other things, via the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
He decided to work in the journalism industry and is now an ABC News reporter. In reality, he was covering for ABC at the time he was spotted pantless. Matthew has been at ABC since November 2018, having previously worked for ESPN and MSG Networks. He has also been a member of the family foundation’s board of directors since 2013. Reeve has featured on ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘The Pulse,’ and most recently reported the Afghan refugees at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. Based on his Instagram page, we know Reeve is dating Lexi Henkel, but it’s unknown whether the couple is married. Aside from that, nothing is known about William. The majority of his social media is dedicated to promoting his work for ABC.
Alexandra Reeve Givens
Alexandra Reeve is the President and CEO of the Centre for Democracy and Technology (CDT), an organisation focusing on technology policy and democracy. She was born to Reeve and his first girlfriend, modelling executive Gae Exton. She began in that position in May 2020, having previously worked at the Georgetown University Law Centre. Alexandra has also worked with the United States Senate, Columbia Law School, and Senator Elizabeth Warren as an adviser. Alexandra married Garren Givens in 2008, after meeting at Yale. In June 2015, they had their first child, a boy named Christopher Russel Reeve Givens. The news that the dog was named “after his grandfathers on both sides” immediately went viral as a homage to Christopher. Alexandra is hardly recognised outside of her work life. She seems to have a low-key private life, with frequent appearances at Reeve’s family foundation events.
Matthew, the oldest of the three, was born to Exton and Reeve and chose to follow in his parents’ footsteps by pursuing a career in Hollywood. Matthew is well known as the producer of the films ‘Christopher Reeve: Hope in Motion’ and ‘Christopher Reeve: Choosing Hope.’ He also produced and directed the documentary ‘Over The Water,’ on World Champion kiteboarder Aaron Hadlow. He’s been a self-employed screenwriter and part of the Reeve Foundation board for the last seven years. Unlike his brothers, Matthew keeps a low profile, so it’s unclear what he’s doing nowadays. Matthew will be recognised as a writer on ‘Agent Hamilton’ in 2020, his first credited appearance since the 2016 short ‘Ladies Who Lunch,’ according to IMDb. Aside from it, he has worked on a number of short films and documentaries, as well as the 1997 MTV Europe Music Awards.
