After 13 years together, Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman have announced their engagement.

According to People, Simon proposed on a family trip. Their 7-year-old son Eric, and Lauren’s oldest kid, Adam (who she has with ex-husband Andrew Silverman), were there when Lauren accepted Eric’s proposal.

After meeting at a Caribbean island resort in 2004, the now-engaged pair began dating. As of July 2013, Simon and Lauren were expecting their first child together, but Lauren was still married to her former husband. It wasn’t until the following December that Lauren and Andrew, a real estate billionaire who had been friends with Simon, divorced.

In an interview with The Mirror in 2014, Simon revealed the beginning of his romance with Lauren: “As far as hurting somebody goes, it’s not something I’m particularly proud of. It suddenly happened without any warning at all.”
