With 1.4 million viewers at the premiere of the first episode the third season, it set an unexpected record for the production and for the media giant, HBO. A number that, unexpectedly, was considered “the best opening night of any HBO series since the launch of HBO Max,” according to the platform’s official statement.
As a consequence, the executive vice president of HBO Programming, Francesca Orsi, announced this Thursday that they have decided to renew with the fourth season. This production in which its narrative foundations include: betrayals and traps with a hunger for revenge.
Even more so, if it is about those who manage large fortunes. The script, characters, and quality production have kept the stakes rising. A test? The Emmy-winning drama series, after launching two episodes of the new season, proved that its formula for success is still conquering millions of viewers.
“With each season of Succession, Jesse Armstrong has exceeded our wildest expectations, stepping inside the Roy family with indelible wit, humanity, and precision,” says Orsi. “This season is certainly no exception, and we couldn’t be more excited about everything that awaits us this coming season,” he adds.
According to the financial reports of the American television network, the second season of Succession had an average of 5 million viewers. The proof of their success is that they have been seven-time winners of the Emmys Awards, including the category for “best drama”.
The third season: family divided, two sides
The second season, the finale, left a clear bite of what could happen. After this, Roy will join all his efforts to convince and, incidentally, get alliances with his daughter Shiv (Snook) and his youngest son Roman (Culkin), in the midst of a growing and bitter civil war within the Roy family; It hardly seems to warm up engines. He won’t care how many risks he has to take, as long as he stays in his position as a tycoon. Screenwriter Georgia Pritchett has told The Sunday Times that the writers are already hatching the next season. “I think the maximum would be five seasons, but possibly more like four,” he told the newspaper. “Right now [Armstrong] is saying just one more [season]. But that always happens. We have a good ending in sight, “he added.
With what they have shown, from the beginning to the third season, they make it clear that it is a vivid portrait of the world of family businesses. More power than they have? It doesn’t matter what happens to this family. The nominations and large numbers of viewers will confirm that a fourth season could not be enough to satisfy this series.
