The invasion of Russia against Ukraine has been adding its sixth day of attacks. Zelensky noted that anyone who wants to join “the defense of security in Europe and the world” can come to Ukraine and fight “side by side with the Ukrainians against the invaders of the 21st century.” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dymtro Kuleba explained that the volunteers should contact the Ukrainian diplomatic missions in their respective countries.

The Kyiv Independent newspaper recalled that the current Ukrainian law allows foreigners between 18 and 40 years of age to apply for positions as soldiers in their armed forces. These volunteer combatants must prove to be physically and mentally fit for battle, in addition to not having a criminal record.

This local media reported that some foreigners have already served in the Ukrainian military lines in the Donbas region. UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss stated that her country will help British citizens who decide to join Ukraine’s military ranks.

“Of course, if people want to support that fight, I would support them in it,” Truss told the BBC. “That is something that people can decide for themselves,” added the diplomat, stressing that the war has continental repercussions. “The Ukrainian people are fighting for the freedom and democracy, not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe”, he sentenced.

After the Russian attack, which began on February 24 by order of Vladimir Putin, thousands of people have fled the conflict zone. A total of 660,000 people have left their homes to cross the borders, according to information from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
