Immediately afterward, Russia bombed the television tower in Kyiv, the Defense Ministry said.

Earlier this day, Russian forces shelled the central square of Ukraine’s second-largest city and other civilian sites, in what President Zelensky condemned as a blatant campaign of terror by Moscow .

The attack on the television tower in Kyiv was reported by the Ukrainian parliament, which published a photo of clouds of smoke around it. Local media reported that there were explosions and that the television channels stopped broadcasting shortly after.

The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, warned that the current situation in the Ukrainian capital is “dangerous” and said that the municipality is intensifying the defense of the city, installing fortifications and checkpoints at the entrances, while the president of the country has appointed a military officer for the city.

“As the enemy gets closer the situation in Kiev becomes more dangerous. Our fighters, the Territorial Defense units fight heroically for our land. We are strengthening our defense. Fortifications and checkpoints are being installed at the entrances to the city. And I urge everyone to remain calm. Please don’t come out unless you hear an air raid siren,” he said in a video.
