The Office of the President of Ukraine reported that Russian forces destroyed a gas pipeline located in Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city.
The explosion could cause an “international catastrophe”, added a spokesman for President Volodimir Zelensky. The office urged citizens to cover their windows with damp cloths or sheets and consume large amounts of water.
Ukraine’s chief prosecutor, Iryna Venediktova, said Russian forces have failed to capture the city, where a fierce battle is still raging.
The city of 1.5 million people is about 25 miles from the Russian border
