WWDC 2022 already has a date: Apple once again celebrates its event to develop virtually

WWDC 2022 will be held in June, as usual. However, it will again be in virtual format due to the pandemic.

Apple announced that WWDC 2022, its annual developer event, will take place June 6-10. Like the most recent editions (2020 and 2021), those from Cupertino will once again resort to a digital event; This is because the pandemic is not over yet. WWDC 2022 will have an opening conference where Apple will present its latest software developments. We are expected to meet iOS 16, iPadOS 16, watchOS 9, tvOS 16, and macOS 13.

“At its heart, WWDC has always been a forum for networking and building community. In that spirit, WWDC22 invites developers from around the world to come together to explore how to bring their best ideas to life and push the boundaries of what It’s possible. We love connecting with our developers and hope that all of our participants are inspired by their experience,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of worldwide developer relations and business and education marketing.

The fact that WWDC 2022 is betting again on a virtual meeting means that developers from all over the world will be able to participate from a distance. The past editions of the event are the best example that Apple was able to adapt to the global health scenario to offer the best possible experience despite not being in person. Both the technical sessions and the opening conference were taken care of down to the smallest detail, something that not many companies have been able to replicate.

Of course, everything seems to indicate that this will be the last time that the Worldwide Developers Conference will be held virtually. In fact, during WWDC 2022 there will be a face-to-face event with limited capacity where students and developers can attend Apple Park to see the inaugural conference. The company reiterates that space will be limited and will soon inform how to request access to it.

WWDC 2022 beyond software

It is a fact that Apple will announce the new versions of its operating systems at WWDC 2022. However, there are also rumors about the possible presence of hardware for professionals. Specifically, we are likely to see the new Mac Pro with Apple Silicon chips. In the “Peak Performance” keynote, John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, anticipated that there will be news about said computer later. This after showing us for the first time the Mac Studio and the M1 Ultra.

Another computer on the way is the next-generation iMac Pro. Apple recently discontinued the older 27-inch iMac to keep its focus on the 24-inch variant, which integrates the M1 chip. However, after this move, it vacated the place of an all-in-one computer for the professional sector. For now, a combination of the Mac Studio + Studio Display can solve that absence. Will we see the new iMac Pro at WWDC 2022? We will know in June.
